Our Mission

GPI promotes, perpetuates and enriches new chamber music for guitar.  In addition to providing a database of repertoire and established ensembles, we organize concerts, residencies, and reading sessions of new chamber works for guitar. Our mission: to establish the guitar as a viable and thriving chamber instrument in the 21st-Century.

Organization Profile

GPI Artistic Director Dr. Matt Gould has committed himself to performing and recording dedicated, commissioned and relatively unknown chamber works for guitar.  As founding member of the chamber music ensemble DUO46 with violinist Beth Schneider, Matt has commissioned more than 90 chamber works for guitar with violin including trios with Cello, Flute, Mandolin, Piano and Viola.

Since 1998, Dr. Gould has been compiling an annotated catalog of 20th-century works for violin and guitar duo.  This personal project cites approximately 500 original works for this instrumental force, containing many unrecorded or un-premiered compositions in need of archiving and active performance.  The desired results for GPI and of this catalog  is to disseminate and therefore establish a standard repertoire for the 21st-century.

GPI supports numerous music organizations including the American Composers Forum, American Music Center, American String Teachers Association, Chamber Music America, Guitar Foundation of America  and the Suzuki Association of America.
